William Regal Wants Jon Moxley To Recognise "Incredible" WWE Moments
"I hope Jon Moxley opens up and realises what incredible things he did in WWE," says William Regal.
William Regal hopes that AEW stablemate Jon Moxley can someday move past whatever lingering anti-WWE sentiment remains within him and recognise "what incredible things" he accomplished as Dean Ambrose.
These comments came on a recent episode of Regal's Gentleman Villain podcast. The 54-year-old, whose association with Moxley runs far deeper than their current Blackpool Combat Club affiliation, praised the reigning AEW World Champion for his "incredible ability" as a sports entertainer, which Mox himself might not realise.
Said Regal (h/t WrestlingNews.co):-
“I wasn’t on the main roster in the last whatever amount of years he was there, but he’s got an incredible ability to do entertaining stuff, and I hope one day, instead of looking at it as a bad thing, he realizes how good that is, because he did that."
Moxley left WWE following a protracted saga in April 2019, having announced several months in advance that he wouldn't be renewing his expiring contract. One month later, he debuted in both AEW and NJPW, sparking his current run and leaving the long-suffering Dean Ambrose character behind.
Continuing, Regal praised Moxley for his versatility. William added that whenever he does autograph signings, people bring up his "entertainment" more than his wrestling, which he hopes Mox can recognise in himself someday:-
“If you look at that, that’s sports entertainment at its best. I know he’s somewhat anti-WWE at the moment and he has been for a while, but he was so good at that stuff. He wants to be a, whatever style of wrestler he is. I’ve personally found when I do autograph signings, the things that people remember me for, and not all the wrestling I’ve done, it’s the entertainment I’ve done. So I hope he one day realizes how good he is at that and opens up a little bit more to that and realizes what incredible things that he did in WWE.”
Presumably Regal isn't referencing the Dean Ambrose character making light of Roman Reigns' leukaemia, Mitch the Plant, or the hotdog cart incident.
Nonetheless, while Moxley's final few years in WWE gave him many an understandable reason to feel frustrated by the promotion and its hierarchy, his eight-year run wasn't without its highlights.
