"Worrying Level Of Secrecy" Creeping Into WWE Creative After Sami Zayn's World Title win (WWE News)

WWE's marketing department is worried that Sami Zayn secrecy could become the new norm.

WrestleVotes on Fightful Select is reporting that several staff members working in WWE's marketing department weren't actually clued in on Sami Zayn's bumper WWE Title win at Night Of Champions before the PLE. That move came as a complete surprise to many, and it seems the booking was only relayed to people on a strict "need to know" basis.

Workers in marketing weren't on the list, apparently. They still haven't received word from upper management about updating assets for SummerSlam in early-August either, which leads some to predict that Sami will drop the belt back to Cody on the 6 July episode of Raw.

That match has been confirmed for Chicago. CM Punk's return hasn't been confirmed, but it's expected too.

It could be considered worrying that marketing hasn't been told to change the graphics for SummerSlam to reflect Zayn becoming new champ. This point wasn't included in the WrestleVotes/Fightful story and is more of a guess than anything else but...perhaps Triple H has ordered marketing to sit on those changes for now to keep everyone in the dark about whether or not Rhodes will regain the strap.

Back to Fightful's write up: They spoke to one WWE employee who called the situation "worrisome". It sets quite the precedent and could make marketing's job more difficult if they're out of the loop about key creative decisions. Generally, WWE gives plenty of notice to those staff members so they can start drafting up graphics and other assets for PLEs.

Something changed last weekend. WWE didn't tell everyone backstage what they had planned.
