Wrestling Icon Says He Turned Down A WWE Commentary Spot
Being "so burnt out" stopped this WWE Hall Of Famer from accepting an announcing gig.
DDP claims he turned down a commentary spot in WWE before departing the company in 2002.
Page told Busted Open Radio that production head Kevin Dunn told him he'd do well very as an announcer - WWE gave the former WCW man a trial gig behind the desk once his in-ring career started winding down, then said they'd put him on syndicated/smaller programming before he reached Raw or SmackDown.
According to DDP, Dunn thought that Page had the chops to eventually make it to the flagship shows. It was never going to happen though, because Diamond didn't fancy listening to Vince McMahon yell at him over the headset.
He'd heard that this was just something commentators had to put up with, and he didn't want that aggro in his life. So, he knocked the gig back and left WWE instead. Page would later pop up in TNA, but was inducted into WWE's Hall Of Fame in 2017.
DDP doesn't regret never trying on the announcer hat full-time though. He probably only needs to ask Mick Foley what it's like to have McMahon bellow in your ear mid-show!
