WWE: 10 Best European Champions In History

By Mark Ginocchio /

10. Mideon

Stats: 1x champion (34-day reign) While Dennis Knight€™s WWE career is probably better known for his part as one half of the two-time tag team champion, The Godwinns, he makes the cut on this list for the offbeat way in which he acquired the European Championship. By 1999, Knight had been €œrechristened€ Mideon by the Undertaker and his Ministry of Darkness, and was primarily partnering with the rotund Viscera. But Mideon back-doored his way to solo glory in a June, 1999 episode of Raw, when he found the European Championship in Shane McMahon€™s duffel bag. McMahon had €œretired€ as champion a few months earlier during an episode of Sunday Night Heat, so Mideon€™s discovery and subsequent defenses brought the title back into circulation. Of course, winning a title via €œdiscovery in a duffel bag,€ is not a remotely effective way to put the championship over as a hot commodity. Fortunately, Mideon dropped the strap 34 days later to then-Intercontinental Champion D€™Lo Brown at Fully Loaded, making D€™Lo WWE€™s first €œEurocontinental€ title holder. From there, the belt started to gain some cache again, before it was eventually buried and discontinued three years later.
