Many wrestling fans have a love/hate relationship with the WWE. From relegating Dolph Ziggler to jobber status, to having Batista win the Royal Rumble, their frustrating booking decisions constantly has us scratching our heads. However, one thing WWE manage to do well on a consistent basis is produce compelling video packages. Video packages are more than just a way to kill time before matches start; they're an integral part of the overall purpose of wrestling, which is to tell an effective story. Much like movie trailers, WWE's video packages are a form of advertising to arouse interest and get us emotionally invested in the product, which ultimately leads us to buying PPVs or watching Raw every week. Again, much like the movie industry, WWE's videos (or trailers) usually represent the overall tone and story they are trying to tell and follow a very particular narrative structure. This will begin with the intro of the characters (wrestlers), displaying a form of tension (how the feud begins) and the anticipation of leading to a final resolution (the PPV). Combine this structure with a catchy song and you will end up with a successful video package. However there are some exceptions. Usually, WWE's tribute videos will disregard traditional narrative structures and will draw us in purely on the audience's emotional attachment for the wrestler. Also the ability to grab our attention depends on which superstars are involved and the effectiveness of the story being told. So armed with the knowledge on what makes an effective WWE video package and after a long trip down memory lane, I eventually managed to compile a list of the ten best videos WWE have ever produced.
