WWE: 10 Reasons Facing John Cena At WrestleMania 30 Is Actually Bad For Bray Wyatt’s Career

By Matthew J. Douglas /

John Cena Is Tone Deaf

If last night's showdown between The Wyatts and John Cena/Hogan proved anything, it proved that John Cena's going to do what John Cena always does. He's going to chuckle, smile, and undercut any semblance of a serious or dark tone that Bray Wyatt tries to bring to the proceedings. John Cena answered Bray's creepy and frightening sermon about John's impending destruction at the hands of the Wyatt Family by singing Margaritaville at them. Is this how you react to a man who refers to himself as the Eater Of Worlds if you see him as a legitimate threat? There is a gravity with which Bray Wyatt speaks; an intensity and an authenticity that John Cena simply can't match. John Cena's the guy that walks down the ramp smiling a week after Randy Orton punted his dad, or jokes about being screwed out of the title the night after it happened. John Cena can't help it; he just doesn't take anything all that seriously. That attitude will cause the majority, if not all of the promos that these two superstars cut on one another to feel disjointed, as if they aren't part of the same story. Bray Wyatt is basically threatening John's entire existence while John smiles and poses with the Hulkster. John Cena's nonchalance undermines the threat that Bray Wyatt presents, and thus undermines the entire conceit of the Bray Wyatt character. All because John Cena can't be bothered to be serious for more than 10 minutes a year, and match the intensity of Bray Wyatt each and every week.
