This was in the summer of 2009. The Miz lost a Lumberjack Match to John Cena a week earlier on Raw, so that meant he was fired per the stipulations. A week later, the Calgary Kid had a match (in Calgary, of course) for a contract on Raw. His opponent was former WWE Superstar Eugene. It wasn't just any kind of contract match, though. It was a "contract on a pole" match. Anything "on a pole" is usually pretty bad. Eugene actually got some offense in with a People's Elbow, but he wasn't able to win. The Calgary Kid won this "grueling" match in less than 2 minutes. Post match, The Calgary Kid hit Eugene with a Skull Crushing Finale as the crowd realized what was going on. Miz also did a post match interview where he declared "I'm the Miz and I'm awesome." It was one of the first times he used that catchphrase. A year later, Miz would win a Money in the Bank contract and become a WWE Champion too. If you're wondering, he's actually from the Cleveland, Ohio area instead of Calgary. If he was from Calgary, he could probably do a Figure Four Leg Lock better. Just saying.
