The smart guy. We all know them and a lot of us are jealous of them for how smart they are. You might be that person, even. In WWE history, there have been plenty of smart wrestlers that could be considered the smart guy. It's a gimmick that, in theory, should work. Nobody likes the guy that brags all day about how he is smarter than everybody else. A lot of the time the gimmick fails just because there's just not that much depth to it or because the performer is average at best. There have been some wrestlers that have been very successful using the smart guy gimmick. Some of them aren't even pure smart guy gimmicks, but they are a part of the overall package of the character. There were some tricky ones to consider like Ted Dibiase and Alberto Del Rio. Are they just rich guys because of their family, or are they rich because they're smart? I decided to leave them off. Vince McMahon could be included because he became a billionaire due to his business, but I'm going to focus more on the actual in-ring performers. Before I begin, an honorable mention to Matt Striker. He had the teacher gimmick, but wasn't the first to really do it and he ended up as a broadcaster in WWE for the most part. He nearly made the list, but I went with some other choices. It's a hard list to rank, so for the sake of argument let's just say it's based on the success of the gimmick and the performer portraying it.
