WWE: 10 Times The Fans Completely Rejected What They Were Seeing

8. Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock at SummerSlam 2002

Here's another Rock match where he was dropping the WWE Title to somebody. This time it was Brock Lesnar, who was in the role of the young heel against Rock, who had several WWE Title reigns at this point in his career. It's not that the great crowd in New York hated The Rock for being a top guy. It's just that they were big fans of Lesnar, who had taken WWE by storm that summer. When Rock went for the People's Elbow and Lesnar countered it with a clothesline, most fans cheered. Soon after, Lesnar hit the F5 and won the WWE Title as the majority of fans cheered him on. A few months later, Lesnar ended up as a babyface. Was it the plan all along? Unlikely. Lesnar was always better as a heel and my guess is WWE was reacting to the SummerSlam crowd by turning him face even though they had spent a lot of time making him a heel. In this case, it's fair to say that WWE did listen to their fans.
