A theme can be a wrestler or show's very identity. It is the very first impression made on fans in most cases and the right theme can create a frenzy thousands strong with a single note or sound effect. WWE in-house musician Jim Johnston has done a beyond admirable job of writing, composing and recording themes for a vast majority of superstars over the years, but sometimes wrestling reaches out to mainstream musicians to make a theme song for a wrestler. When that happens the result is something that makes both wrestling fans and fans of the band making the theme pay attention as the song is wildly popular. There are also cases where wrestlers will take an already popular song and make it their own, sometimes even breathing new life and popularity into the song and introducing the recording artist to a new audience. Other times, the biggest names in wrestling and music combine, granting use of a legendary song or even performing the song live to go with the legendary proportions of the wrestler or event involved. There are many themes out there to fit the bill but only a few that leave an indelible mark on both music and wrestling fans.
20. "I'm Coming" (MVP) - Silkk The Shocker
http://youtu.be/ashe6Wn8hyI Master P and the rest of the No Limit Soldiers have long held a relationship with the professional wrestling industry, stemming back to their time in WCW in the late-1990s. Though most of their efforts for and inside the squared circle are looked at with disdain or laughed at, this theme, written and performed by Silkk The Shocker and debuting on Wreckless Intent, the theme was used for MVP during his entire run in WWE. A great example of Silkk's rapping style and southern hip hop in general. The song, like any good wrestling theme is instantly recognisable, even touting it in its opening bars "you hear the clock ticking." A braggart's anthem if there ever was one, MVP suited the song perfectly as early in his time in WWE he was the embodiment of braggadocio. The multi-million dollar athlete who let everyone in the room know that he was better than they at anything and everything, and they were all just lucky to be in the same arena as he.
19. "Obsession" (Saturday Night's Main Event 1985-88) - Animotion
"Obsession" is one of the quintessential songs of the 1980s, all the way to its status as a one-hit wonder for recording artist Animotion. The memorable New Wave hit, released in 1984, is one of the most recognisable songs of the decade and one hell of an earworm. Wrestling fans however have a completely different reason to remember the song, as for three years it was the theme for one of the most memorable shows in WWE history, Saturday Night's Main Event. Though not a weekly show, some of the biggest moments of the second half of 1980s occurred during one of the NBC broadcasts from Paul Orndorff vs. Hulk Hogan in a steel cage, to Andre The Giant winning and selling the WWE Championship, the formation and collapse of the Mega Powers, and any number of the memorable tag team matches involving some of the great teams of the decade such as The Killer Bees, The Dream Team, Hart Foundation and British Bulldogs. Some of the biggest moments in wrestling history took place on this show and all those memories come flooding back to wrestling fans the moment the synth melody starts.
