WWE: 5 Most Successful Comebacks

By Nathan Ritchie /

In the second part of my WWE comeback articles, I'm going to talk about the successful returns to the WWE. This is when a superstar returns after a long break and manages to achieve even more popularity than when they were originally in the company. Bringing back superstars is often an expensive risk for the WWE, however in these cases the gamble pays off. These are five of my favorite successful returns to the WWE. Cast your eyes on these comeback kings.

5. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy is among the most popular WWE superstars of all time. What is unique about Jeff is that he is liked by all demographics, the women love him, the men love him and the kids love him too. Jeff made his mark in the WWE with death defying stunts in TLC matches with his brother Matt Hardy. The Hardy Boyz would win the tag team titles on six separate occasions during Jeff's first stint in the WWE and would go down as the most extreme tag team of all time. Jeff would also find some notable success as a singles competitor, winning the Intercontinental, Light-heavyweight, European and Hardcore belts in the space of a year. Despite this success Jeff would be released from the WWE in 2002 because of drug problems and deteriorating ring skills. Jeff would then join TNA for two years, originally making a massive impact attracting a lot of attention to TNA in the process. He returned to WWE in August 2006, the fans much like they did in TNA when he arrived instantly cheered hard and he therefore got a push upon entering the WWE. Jeff had new faces and old faces to feud with as well as a reunion with Matt on the cards, so storylines and matches seemed to be a natural process. Jeff would have interesting matches with high flyer Johnny Nitro (John Morrison), resulting in Jeff winning the Intercontinental championship twice. Jeff then went on to partner up with Matt Hardy once again and they reclaimed Tag Team glory in the process. What makes Jeff's return a successful one is his capture of WWE title, which he did not achieve during his first stint. Jeff would also capture the Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk, his matches with CM Punk helped Punk on his way to the top of the WWE. Unfortunately Jeff suffered from two herniated discs and a neck injury so left WWE in August 2009. Since leaving WWE Jeff has had his ups and downs to say the least. Jeff has captured the TNA heavyweight title on three different occasions however he has had drug problems resulting in Jeff being arrested and charged for heroin possession as well as going to the ring in no fit condition to compete. Despite this, Jeff is looking in much better shape these days and is still going strong in TNA.
