WWE: 55 Greatest Superstars Of The 21st Century

By David Noriega /

46. Nigel McGuinness

Now hear me out. You might not heard of him but Nigel McGuinness but that doesn't mean he hasn't been a star in his own right. Nigel made his ROH (Ring of Honor) debut in 2003. While in ROH he had some great feuds with Colt Cabana, Claudio Castagnoli (Antonio Cesaro) and Samoa Joe. One of the best pure wrestlers in the business, Nigel was the face of ROH for the better part of 3 years. McGuinness was all set to join the WWE in 2009 but a failed physical (dammit!) put a stop to it. So instead he joined TNA under the name Desmond Wolfe and had an amazing debut feud with the great Kurt Angle. Unfortunately for us, his TNA run only lasted a year and McGuinness abruptly retired (hepatitis C?) under mysterious circumstances. These days he can be seen on ROH TV as one of the lead announcers. Stats: 1 time ROH Pure Champion 1 time ROH World Champion

45. James Storm

James Storm is one of the TNA originals. Being with the company since the beginning, Storm has built himself up as one of TNA's top guys. Starting off as one half of the America's Most Wanted tag team, him and his partner Chris Harris found success, capturing gold 6 times with Harris. The team lasted 4 years before disbanding. Then after not doing much for about a year, Storm found new life as the tag team partner of Bobby Roode. It's here where Storm really came into his own both as an individual and as a tag team champion. Beer Money was TNA's hottest tag team for 3 years strong. The disbandment of the group slingshotted Storm into super stardom as him and Roode battled over the World Title. Eventually capturing it in 2011 by defeating Kurt Angle. Storm since has really come into his own as one of TNA's brightest stars. Stats: 1 time TNA World Heavyweight Champion 5 time TNA Tag Team Champion 7 time NWA Tag Team Champion

44. The Miz

It's hard for me to say nice things about The Miz but I'll give the man his due. A solid worker and with decent mic skills, The Miz has come a long way since his days on Tough Enough in 2004. The Miz made himself known once he teamed up with John Morrison and became one half of the tag team champions in 2007. His biggest moment came when he successfully defeated John Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania 27 (thanks to The Rock) to retain the WWE Championship. Now The Miz can be seen on Raw and Miz TV where he's constantly in and out of the title picture. As one of Mr. McMahon's 'guys' The Miz is here to stay. Love him or hate him, The Miz has made a name for himself in the WWE. Stats: 1 time WWE Champion 2 time WWE Intercontinental Champion 5 time WWE Tag Team Champion 2 time WWE US Champion 1 time Money in the Bank winner

43. Austin Aries

For over 2 years, Austin Aries was the face of ROH wrestling. Not only was he their best wrestler but he was their Heavyweight Champion on two separate occasions. Also claiming Tag Team Gold one with Roderick Strong. Eventually TNA took notice and signed the up and coming star in. His first run in TNA didn't exactly go according to plan so after 2 years, Aries returned to where it all started in ROH. Three years later he returned to TNA and made a BIG impact. Winning the X Division title was only the start for Aries as he then vacated the belt in order for a shot at the Heavyweight Championship in which he won by defeating Bobby Roode. After losing the title 98 days later to Jeff Hardy, Aries and Roode formed a tag team and eventually won the Tag Team Championships thus making Aries one of the few Triple Crown winners in TNA's history. Aries is just starting to reach his peak as a performer, hopefully one day we'll be able to watch him shine in the WWE. Stats: 2 time ROH Heavyweight Champion 1 time ROH Tag Team Champion 1 Time TNA World Heavyweight Champion 2 time TNA X Division Champion 1 time TNA Tag Team Champion 5th TNA Triple Crown Winner

42. MVP

Baaaaalllin' MVP was just cool to watch. With one of the best entrances in the WWE at the time, MVP was an entertainer. Making his WWE debut in 2006, MVP was billed as one of the highest paid free agents in Smackdown history. Feuding with the like of Chris Benoit, Kane and Matt Hardy, MVP was one of Smackdown's better faces. Eventually claiming gold as the US Champion, MVP solidified himself as a star. He went on to win the prestigious title once more during his WWE run. In 2010 MVP was granted his release as he then joined New Japan Pro Wrestling where he can currently be seen wrestling. MVP has sense reinvented himself as one of New Japans stars claiming gold as their Intercontinental Champion. Rumors claim that it's only a matter of time before he makes his way back to the big show in the WWE where he undoubtedly would continue where he left off as a champion. Stats: 1 time WWE Tag Team Champion 2 time WWE US Champion 1 time IWGP Intercontinental Champion
