The basis of the gimmick was no one ever knew what Pillman would do next or when. It worked, just not to Bischoffs advantage. Fans, backstage personnel, and even the other wrestlers had no idea when Brian Pillman was on or off. This obviously would present a problem in the micro-managed WWE of 2014. In 1996, Brian Pillman shot a gun during a broadcast. Pillman once pulled his penis out in the ring and urinated. Another time he grabbed an unsuspecting Bobby Heenan while he was doing commentary, and caused Heenan to curse live on air, and walk off in disgust. Brian The Loose Cannon Pillman would promptly be shown the door, without being wished success in his future endeavors in 2014. He had a character that was perfect for the transitional era of breaking kayfabe. In conclusion, nothing is certain in wrestling, and I would not be shocked if versions of these gimmicks one day re-appeared in WWE. However, based on current programming standards and the social consciousness of today, their return seems highly unlikely. Wrestling will continue to reflect everyday life, and with every passing day new gimmicks will present themselves. Its just on us how we want to react to them.
