The Friar Ferguson character was known as "The Mad Monk" in WWE. A monk is known for being a religious man that either lived alone or with other monks. Ferguson was portrayed by a wrestler named Mike Shaw, who was more famously known as Bastion Booger, which was his character after Ferguson. Ferguson started in WWE in April 1993 and his run was so short that by June 1993, Shaw was already doing the Booger character. It's as if Vince McMahon thought "that whole religious thing was a bad idea, so let's have you eat food on TV" because apparently that is something people would hate to watch.Shaw mentioned in a 2004 interview that the character lasted for such a short time because Vince had been getting negative feedback on the character from the Catholic Church and the media in the New York area. Many didn't find the character appropriate. It's understandable that people would dislike an evil monk character, so it wasn't a bad idea for WWE to end the gimmick before it could get very far.
