Apparently, when Mick Foley first approached his bosses at WCW about his new finisher, the Mandible Claw, Vice President Bill Watts shot it down with the question: "Why don't I just bite your goddamn fingers off?" Luckily, Vince McMahon was much more persuadable (Foley continuously talked about the move as a nerve hold; a way to immobilise the opponent's jaw) and one of wrestling's most famous finishers was born. It must also be one of wrestling's most unhygienic finishers too. With the help of "Mr. Socko", Foley would jam his hand into his opponent's mouth to the crowd's delight. The fact that he kept Mr. Socko in the crotch region of his trousers as he wrestled just added to the gross-out factor. The thing is though, even if you buy into Foley's 'nerve hold' theory, would the Mandible Claw actually hurt? Probably not. Still, submitting to prevent choking on a sock is still a submission.
