WWE Already Planning Blake Monroe Heel Run (WWE News)
Ex-AEW star set for major heel jump after debuting on WWE NXT as a babyface.
New WWE NXT recruit Blake Monroe, who was formerly known as AEW's Mariah May, captured fan imaginations once she debuted on the company's developmental brand as somebody living her lifelong dreams. May shot footage for her own personal YouTube channel ahead of her WWE debut on 3 June, and it was clear to see she was giddy about the whole experience.
That naturally led WWE's writers towards casting Monroe as a babyface delighted to be part of the WWE system.
Fightful Select is reporting that this face run might not last too much longer. In fact, Shawn Michaels and his NXT creative team are already drumming up ways to turn Blake heel. Interestingly, Fightful heard that these plans are for "the near future". In other words, that heel turn is coming sooner rather than later.
This wasn't included in Fightful's write-up, but...could it occur at Evolution on 13 July? There, Monroe will almost certainly be present as newfound buddy Jordynne Grace battles Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women's Title. Both Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx will be in the champ's corner, so Blake would even things out a little on the all-women's PLE.
It's entirely possible that she screws Jordynne out of the belt and cements herself as a top female heel on NXT going forwards.
Fightful did report that "there are long-term plans for Blake Monroe on NXT TV". She was considered a huge get for HBK and Triple H after becoming the latest star to make the jump between AEW and WWE, so it makes sense that Monroe will become a big breakout star in NXT before making a splash on either Raw or SmackDown.
Basically, there's a big ol' heel turn incoming for somebody adept at playing villain.
