WWE Announce Universal Championship Belt For Raw
Seth Rollins and Finn Balor will compete for Raw's flagship title at SummerSlam.
Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley opened last night's Raw by announcing the creation of a brand new flagship title exclusive to their brand - the 'Universal Championship'.
The first champion will be decided at SummerSlam in a match between Finn Balor and Seth Rollins; the latter was simply granted a title shot by Stephanie, while Finn had to win a fatal four way match and defeat Roman Reigns to earn the opportunity.
With Dean Ambrose retaining his WWE Championship at Sunday's Battleground, thereby taking the belt with him to SmackDown, many had speculated over the possible introduction of a new top-tier championship.
This seems to be the case, although the design of the belt itself remains a mystery for now.
News of the new championship was just one of several shocking changes to take place on last night's Raw, including Balor's triumph over Reigns, and Sasha Banks' victory to become the new WWE Women's Champion.
