Next year's WWE Backlash pay-per-view will take place in Newark, New Jersey, as announced on last night's SmackDown.

The event will be hosted at the city's Prudential Center on Sunday, May 6th, with tickets already available via Ticketmaster pre-sale, using 'BACKLASH' as the code.

While this year's event was a SmackDown exclusive, Backlash 2018 will be a Raw-branded pay-per-view. It is sandwiched between WrestleMania 34 on April 8th SD's Payback event on May 27th, and is the red brand's first scheduled pay-per-view after February 25th's Elimination Chamber.

WWE have held only two pay-per-views in Newark in the past, with Extreme Rules 2016 and Hell In A Cell 2009 both taking place in the Prudential Center. They regularly use the building for TV tapings and house shows, however, with SmackDown, 205 Live, Main Event, and Raw all broadcasting from there in 2017, with last night's SD/205 combination the latest instance.

Backlash 2017 brought widescale disappointment as Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton for the WWE Championship, thus embarking on one of the most maligned title runs in recent history. Here's hoping the company have something a little less torturous planned for next May.
