WWE Battleground 2016: 10 Awesome Moments
It's Bayley!
Before Battleground, there was the overwhelming sense that timing was a major issue for WWE. After all, the WWE Draft had just taken place, and yet fans were expected to ignore that temporarily whilst an awkwardly-placed pay-per-view peered around the corner. Thankfully, any hesitancy was largely misplaced, because there were some truly awesome moments on the show.
Some matches were better than others, but that was always to be expected. Ignoring any negatives people are sure to take from every pay-per-view, Battleground had long-awaited debuts, a true sleeper hit between real-life best friends who must have dreamed of having matches like this in WWE, and the right result in the main event.
Along the way, there were also some big bumps that really caught the eye and - generally - the right kind of decisions from management in regards to the various titles up for grabs.
Every single moment at Battleground is unlikely to please everybody, but let's look at 10 awesome ones that can't be considered negatives...
10. The Kickoff Match Shines
Sometimes, the Kickoff match before pay-per-view events can feel a little redundant. That's a shame, because the bout's chief purpose is really to help warm up the crowd for what's to come. If that's the sole intention (and there's no reason to suspect that it's not), then The Usos vs. Breezango was a success.
In the WWE Draft, both these units were posted to SmackDown. As The New Day are the current WWE Tag-Team Champions and on Raw, neither will be warring for the belts anytime soon, but that doesn't mean they don't have a part to play. If nothing else, this match proved that.
It's heartening for Tyler Breeze and Fandango in particular that they were handed the win at Battleground. Better yet, the match itself was a lot of fun, never dipping below a frantic pace that kept things motoring alone in fine fashion.
Few could begrudge this quartet the chance to prove themselves when they're effectively only there to make up the numbers. For a pre-show tag match, this was excellently worked.
