WWE.comIt was announced in the first segment of Raw that John Cena will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns at WWE's Battleground pay-per-view from Tampa on July 20th. It's a Fatal Four Way match, which means the man that gets the first pinfall or submission will be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. While the Fatal Four Way match hasn't been done as a PPV main event in a while, it's the second PPV in a row with more than two people in a major title match. When you keep doing it all the time the novelty wears off a bit. The main event on Raw saw Cena team up with Reigns against Kane and Orton. The match ended in a DQ after Kane attacked Cena with the steel steps. Reigns ended up brawling with Orton. When Reigns returned, he nailed Kane with a Spear and had a long staredown with Triple H. It's expected that Cena will retain the WWE Title at Battleground because the plan is to set up a WWE Title match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Another match announced for Battleground was for the Intercontinental Title. Since the IC Champ Bad News Barrett has a shoulder injury that requires surgery, he's been stripped of the gold. There will be a Battle Royal at Battleground for the vacant IC Title. Cesaro is the favorite according to Paul Heyman. Others in the match include Kofi Kingston, The Great Khali, Damien Sandow and plenty of other midcarders. There was nothing else announced for Battleground although based on what happened on Raw there are a few matches that are possible: - Chris Jericho returned to WWE. He nailed The Miz with a Codebreaker. It looked like he was going to have a feud with Miz, but instead he was cut off by the Wyatt Family. It will likely lead to Jericho vs. Wyatt at Battleground. Jericho's a good opponent for Wyatt because Jericho has no problem putting him over. He's always putting over the younger guys. - The Usos are probably gong to defend the tag titles against Luke Harper & Erick Rowan again since Harper pinned Jey Uso in a six man tag. - Rusev was confronted by Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. It looks like a face turn for the Real Americans, so that's probably a Battleground match too. - There was also a Divas Title change on Raw as Paige lost her title to AJ Lee in a surprise match. It seems as though they have switched roles with Paige as the heel while AJ is the face, so that will probably lead to a rematch at Battleground. That's six potential matches for Battleground. There are less than three weeks to set things up for the show, but it looks like they on the right path.
