WWE Champion Daniel Bryan To Undergo Neck Surgery

By John Canton /

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan will undergo neck surgery this Thursday. It's expected that the injury will keep him out of action for a few weeks, meaning he won't be fulfilling dates on the imminent European tour where he was due to headline house shows that John Cena wasn't on. No firm return date has been announced. This week on Raw, WWE had Bryan enter the ring to announce to the world that he had to have neck surgery. He did a promo about how hard he worked to get to the top of the company. He ended his promo by leading the crowd in "yes" chants after letting them know that he would be back. The storyline continued when Kane dragged Bryan from the backstage area and left him on the ramp. Bryan's shirt was ripped up. He had scars on his face too. Bryan ended up getting wheeled out of the arena with his wife Brie by his side. Brie ended up shoving Stephanie McMahon. Bryan's surgery was first reported by SEScoops.com a few hours before Raw. He will undergo what has been called a minimally-invasive neck procedure that could allow him to return for Payback on June 1st. Since his surgery is on Thursday, it would mean he would have to be ready in just over two weeks after his operation. It's one of those situations where we don't know all the info right now, but assuming everything goes well he should be able to return to the ring soon. As is the case with any surgery, there are different procedures and recovery times for everything. As for the WWE World Heavyweight Title, at this point it is still on Bryan. If it was a major injury that kept him on the shelf for several months then WWE likely would have stripped him of the title on Raw or at least announced something like that. Instead, they didn't really address it. That leads us to believe he'll be back either at Payback or soon thereafter. The majority of WWE's roster is headed to Europe this week. Half of the crew will be on a tour headlined by John Cena while the other half would have been on shows headlined by Bryan, but that's obviously not happening right now. It will be a tough blow to WWE's fans that were looking forward to seeing him. All of us here at WhatCulture wish Daniel Bryan the best in his recovery from neck surgery.
