WWE Completely Changes Major Upcoming PLE
You won't be seeing King & Queen Of The Ring after all; WWE has changed plans!
WWE has decided to scrap plans for the upcoming PLE in Saudi Arabia on 27 May and go in a completely new direction with the show.
The company announced that the already-advertised King & Queen Of The Ring event at the Jeddah Super Dome next month would now be Night Of Champions. This, of course, is an old title - the last NOC card happened back in September 2015, and is best-known for being the evening current AEW star Sting suffered a serious, potentially-career ending injury during his main event bout with Seth Rollins.
WWE shelved the idea after that, but it's returning soon.
PWInsider Elite reports that this was a "creative choice", but there's no word on exactly why the planned King/Queen Of The Ring tournaments have been ditched. There's still a chance that WWE could promote both tourneys later in the year as a separate show, or keep them for downtime on TV in between major pay-per-views.
This will come as a disappointment to those who were looking forward to the return of KOTR (in particular). Fans who also liked that the Queen's Crown had been tweaked to bring it in line with the traditional King concept may also feel a little bummed out.
