WWE has discussed the possibility of bringing Kairi Sane in for Royal Rumble 2022.

Per Fightful Select, the idea of using the Japanese star as a surprise entrant in the titular women's match has at least been pitched behind the scenes. This shouldn't be taken as an indication that it'll happen, however, or that it's even in the works, as the standard "plans change" disclaimer is particularly pertinent during Rumble season. This is a very fluid time of year, creatively, with even high-profile entrants often not learning of their participation until the day before the event.

Sane would presumably need longer notice than one day, given that she relocated to her native Japan following her final WWE appearance in July 2020. The former NXT Women's Champion has worked for the company in an ambassadorial capacity since then.

Fightful reported earlier this month that Sane's WWE contract was due to expire at the end of February. That she would leave the company following this date wasn't set in stone, though people within WWE expected the contract to elapse.

Kairi has teased returning to wrestling several times over the past few months, though she reportedly turned down a WWE return in late 2021.
