WWE Fan Favourite Quietly Undergoes Surgery, Will Miss Time
This top WWE name will be out a little while due to injury.
WWE's Rey Mysterio is set to spend 6-8 weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a successful knee surgery.
Mysterio announced his surgery via social media on Tuesday, stating that when he recovers, he is coming for revenge on Santos Escobar.
WWE paid off weeks of Mysterio/Escobar teasing on last week's SmackDown, as Santos turned on Mysterio and the rest of the LWO, assaulting Rey in an angle largely focused on destroying the legend's knee. Despite this dose of kayfabe, the injury is understood to be legitimate.
Haus of Wrestling reported on Mysterio's impending 6-8 week absence. The 48-year-old had been working through a torn meniscus for around three months and, with the situation worsening, he agreed to drop the WWE United States Title to Logan Paul ahead of surgery. When he returns to television, he will likely resume the Escobar storyline.
The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer has corroborated the injury's legitimacy.
Rey dropped the United States Title to Paul at Crown Jewel 2023 (4 November), doing so after 85 days on top. The legend successfully defended the gold against Escobar on the 29 September episode of SmackDown.
