A match pro-wrestling fans have been dreaming of for decades may be on the verge of finally coming to fruition, with talkSPORT's Alex McCarthy reporting that The Undertaker vs. Sting at WrestleMania 36 is WWE's likeliest choice should the WCW legend return to the promotion.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider had previously reported that Sting was coming back to WWE to set up a programme with Super ShowDown 2020. He has since noted that WWE's plans have changed with regards to using 'The Vigilante' in Saudi Arabia, though McCarthy's story suggests that an unlikely pro-wrestling comeback isn't totally off the table for Sting.

Sting hasn't wrestled since suffering a serious neck injury while competing against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions 2015. He'll be 61 years old by the time WrestleMania 36 rolls around.

'Taker vs. Sting was a genuine dream match for years, though WWE were never able to put the bout together. They came very, very close in 2011, even airing a series of vignettes hinting at the WCW legend's arrival, though Stinger ultimately turned WWE down in favour of a return to TNA. He has remained on good terms with the promotion since retiring and last appeared as part of Ric Flair's birthday celebrations in February 2019.
