WWE Has Already Spoiled THIS Royal Rumble 2022 Surprise
This Royal Rumble appearance was supposed to be a surprise, until WWE went full WWE.
Former WWE wrestler Summer Rae was an unexpected inclusion when the promotion announced its first group of participants for the 2022 women's Royal Rumble on this week's episode of SmackDown, though her upcoming appearance was meant to be kept under wraps.
Via Instagram, Rae has revealed that her being involved in the Rumble was supposed to be saved for an on-the-night surprise. Instead, WWE decided to announce it on SmackDown.
Here's what she had to say (h/t Wrestling Inc.):-
“Okay, so obviously I can’t sleep. I’ve been on Twitter and I am so overwhelmed by the amazing response on Twitter by you guys. Oh my gosh, like, we weren’t even supposed to announce that I was going to be in the Rumble, it was going to be a surprise and then, I found out a couple of hours ago. So I was really nervous to look on Twitter, because people are mean, like, people just be mean on Twitter and the response — everyone was so nice. You guys have me in my feels."
Summer Rae last appeared for WWE in 2016. Drafted to Raw that July, injuries rendered her unable to appear between then and her official release on 29 October.
19 names have been announced for the women's Royal Rumble so far, with Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Lita, and the Bella Twins joining Rae as surprise participants. The pay-per-view takes place on Saturday 29 January.
