WWE Has Banned Wrestlers From Saying Another Word On Air
So THAT explains the confusion surrounding Street Profits vs. Viking Raiders...
Much confusion surrounded this week's WWE Raw match pitting the Street Profits against the Viking Raiders.
Many assumed that Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford would be putting their Raw Tag Team Championships on the line against Erik and Ivar, as it was never explicitly stated that they wouldn't be. This was not the case, however. The gold wasn't on the line, the Raiders took the pinfall, and likely earned themselves a real shot in the process.
So why wasn't this stipulated beforehand, and why did WWE let the confusion fester? Because they have apparently banned performers from saying the term "non-title" on air.
This was the word of Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
There's no word on why, exactly, WWE has forbidden the word's usage, with Meltzer noting that the promotion is yet to come up with an alternative to use in its place. Related terms like "belt," "strap," and "title shot" have long been banned on the main roster, forcing wrestlers to regurgitate more contrived phrases like "championship opportunity."
Most words relating to the ongoing global health crisis are also banned from television, with this unlikely to change until the situation eases.
