Following a trial period, WWE has formally hired Petey Williams to serve as a full-time producer for the promotion.

Fightful Select broke this news, reporting how Williams' trial spell went well and that WWE this week completed a deal to bring him on board in a permanent role.

It was first revealed in October how the Canadian Destroyer was working a tryout for a producer spot on both the Raw and SmackDown brands. That trial run came about after Williams' producing work in IMPACT Wrestling received plentiful plaudits. November brought an update that the 40-year-old was being fast-tracked in terms of responsibilities, which many saw as an obvious indication that WWE was happy with his work.

Several in WWE have spoken highly of Williams, and he has particularly received praise for stepping up in a big way during the COVID 19-hit 27 December episode of Raw that saw plentiful talent and backstage personnel absent.

A 20-year veteran of the squared circle, Petey made his in-ring debut back in 2001. It was with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling where Williams would make his name, first appearing for the promotion in 2004, and the high-flyer would become a two-time X Division Champion during his multiple spells with the company.

Interestingly, Petey Williams is the person often cited as being the inventor of the Canadian Destroyer move from which he takes his nickname - although some point to Amazing Red as the first person to start using this oft-impressive manoeuvre.

In terms of in-ring, Williams last competed in October 2021, losing to Nick Wayne for Without a Cause's WAC Year Three: WACstreet's Back! event. Earlier that month also saw him wrestle for IMPACT.
