PWInsider reports that WWE is interested in signing top independent star Lio Rush. The star recently finished working with Ring of Honor and was backstage at the post-WrestleMania 33 Raw in Orlando, Florida.

Rush, 22, first debuted in late 2014, training with Maryland Championship Wrestling and competing for that promotion and Combat Zone Wrestling. In MCW, Rush teamed with current NXT star Patrick Clark to claim the company's tag team titles, and on his own, he won the 15th Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup.

Rush's talent and high-flying ability got him a spot in Ring of Honor, where he won the 2016 Top Prospect Tournament. That led to his signing a full-time contract with the promotion, which allowed him to challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship and compete in the Survival of the Fittest tournament.

After vying for the ROH Six-Man and Tag Team Championships, Rush gave his notice to the promotion. Since leaving the company in March, he has spent more time competing for EVOLVE Wrestling - which, it should be noted, has a working relationship with WWE and allows its stars to break contracts in order to sign with the global promotion.
