On last night's edition of WWE RAW from Anaheim, John Cena announced that he would be leaving the company for an extended period to take care of his injured elbow. It was revealed that this was due to fluid build up in Cena's elbow from a torn tricep and it will require surgery to be repaired. Cena then announced that he will be out of action for four to six months. Cena's injury is nothing new, as we have known that he was working injured for some time now. During his SummerSlam match, Cena's elbow was heavily wrapped and it was obvious that he was in bad shape. Many outlets (including F4WOnline.com via WrestlingInc.com) reported prior to last night's Raw that:
"Cena's elbow is in bad shape and that the WWE champ will be having surgery shortly after SummerSlam, meaning he will be taking some more time off."
Despite the injury, Cena had a truly great match with Daniel Bryan but it seems that enough is enough and he needs to get himself healed. This isn't the first time that Cena has had to miss a long period of in-ring time due to injury. In 2007, Cena took on Mr. Kennedy and during a hip toss, tore his pec. He returned extremely swiftly as the surprise entrant into the Royal Rumble and won the match. This was the longest time Cena was out of action in the last seven years until now. Cena earlier had played off the severity of the injury in a 6th August Tweet: "To all those wondering how a baseball got stuck in my left elbow. It's...complicated. I'll be fine for #summerslam @WWEUniverse @WWE." This has led to a series of nagging injuries and other ailments so this really is best for him at this point. But the question is who will be the WWE's "Top Guy" now while Cena is recovering? It looks like it could be Daniel Bryan, but will we have to wait and see. What do you guys think? Will Cena be badly missed or can he be replaced?
