WWE Legend Teasing Retirement On Twitter?
Is the 10-time tag team champion on his way out?
After close to 26 years in the wrestling business, many of which have been spent dipping in and out of WWE, Matt Hardy may be considering full-on retirement.
The 43-year-old tweeted the following yesterday afternoon, sparking speculation that his run is coming to an end:-
You can never be sure of anything in this business until it actually happens, and Hardy has a long history of working his fans on social media, but the tweet's sentimental tone doesn't seem coincidental.
Hardy and Bray Wyatt recently lost the Raw Tag Team Championships. Their run as has benefitted both men, but with Matt's physical capabilities clearly diminished and the Woken Universe not taking off in the same way as its Broken precursor did in TNA, the timing makes sense.
Matt's first WWE appearance came in May 1994, when he lost to Nikolai Volkoff. He continued as a sporadic jobber until signing his first full-time contract in 1998, with him and brother Jeff fast becoming tag division staples, before embarking on successful singles careers.
Both drifted in and out of the company over the years, finding success in organisations like TNA and Ring Of Honor, before returning at WrestleMania 33. If Matt does retire, he'll do so as a 10-time WWE tag champion and a surefire Hall-of-Famer.
