WWE: Looking at "The Clash of Cultures and Champions" Editions Of Main Event And NXT
WWE's European vacation continued with this week's Main Event and like most to visit the UK they didn't really do much to make the trip memorable. The show begins with JBL in the ring and he interviews Mark Henry and questions his effectiveness compared to the Big Show. This leads to Henry getting angry and somehow agreeing to a gauntlet match. I wasn't aware that JBL had that power? I guess he really is a wrestling God. The match itself was nothing spectacular as Henry decimated both Usos, Santino, but then backs down from Khali who he beat before multiple times? That ruins anything you're trying to build with him, didn't it? Although I did enjoy Mark Henry yelling at JBL during the match. Say what you want about Layfield and his constant yammering, he played it great here. We end the live portion of the program minus Raw Recaps with a promo from Zeb and Jack Swagger, who say they're not worried about the triple threat match at Extreme Rules. Colter says that Dolph has questionable morals due to his bleach blonde hair (Gay reference?). Zeb also says that no disqualification this Friday that Swagger is in his kind of match. Since when? Has Colter been paying attention? Ambrose versus Taker this Friday yes please. Good to see an Ohio boy make it. Let's move on to a very special NXT as we have the Clash of the Champions introduced by Dusty Rhodes. We begin tonight being introduced by announcers Todd Phillips and William Regal before heading to the first championship match of the night, Adrian Neville will face Antonio Cesaro for the US title. Now I know what you're thinking, Antonio's not the champion anymore and you're right. They made that clear to the television audience by running a crawl down the bottom of the screen saying the Swiss superstar was defeated and the match was taped weeks in advance. And while knowing the result may turn off some to watching this match. It really shouldn't as this was phenomenal seeing not only Cesar o actually get the chance to work without yodeling and losing. Neville cannot be shortchanged in this either as he showed off his highflying skills to great lengths doing a springboard move to the outside that literally did defy gravity. Amazing match! Next up, we had the divas title as AJ battled Kaitlyn in a great match. Before the match, though AJ's mannerisms sitting with her legs crossed between the ropes was simply awesome. These two can really put together a match, and I am anxious to see what they do at Extreme Rules. Kaitlyn wins this one with one hell of a spear. Something that bugged me though is Todd Phillips automatically bringing up the hashtag #spearit really Does everything need to be hashtags? We go backstage and I don't know whether it was Tony Dawson birthday, but everybody was complimenting him on how he looks. Anyway, Chris Jericho is backstage and says he talks to the NXT Commissioner who said next week he could choose anyone he wanted on the roster to fight. This leads to an awesome interaction between Bray Wyatt and Jericho. In the end, the match was made for next week. And more I've heard about it or not going to want to miss it Strangely enough the NXT title fight is the next to last match on this show as Brad Maddox, who did his own introduction by the way got decimated by Big E Langston, who administers a five count twice after the match. When was the last time that the Intercontinental title was the main event on WWE programming 2002 maybe? Bo Dallas is backstage after we see the history between he and Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett following the Royal Rumble. Dallas runs down the history of the belt and then complements Dawson, who looks like he just got touched by a hot girl in English class Weird stuff. All in all Wade Barrett and Bo Dallas did a lot more here than WWE has done since this taping place almost 5 weeks ago. Barrett worked on the arm of Dallas. Even at one point in the third-generation superstar do a complete flip landing on the shoulder. That looked really sick and the finishing Bull Hammer Elbow was perhaps the most amazing that move has looked since its debut. In the end, I'd say if you want to watch Mark Henry be somewhat awesome check out Main Event But under no circumstances should you miss this weeks NXT. Yes you may know the outcomes of the matches But if you want real good action that's where you should look.
