WWE Making Big Changes To Becky Lynch Vs. Charlotte Flair Storyline
Is heel Becky already a thing of the past?
Becky Lynch delivered 2018's most memorable WWE mic drop on Tuesday night, calling Charlotte Flair a "b*tch* after laying the SmackDown Women's Champion out once again.
Coming eight days after a misfiring SummerSlam heel turn, it was another dishonourable deed from Becky, but one that presented her as a shades-of-grey anti-hero rather than an outright villain. According to John Pollock of POST Wrestling, this is exactly what WWE were trying to achieve.
Per Pollock's sources, the company are now eschewing a strict face/heel dynamic and will instead write the duo two warring parties that both have valid points, but neither is willing to back down. WWE don't want Charlotte to look villainous, and have presumably adjusted Becky's position after listening to the near-universal support she has received throughout the storyline.
This is probably a smart move. WWE received widespread criticism for trying to turn Becky, one of their most natural babyfaces, at SummerSlam. The audience rejected it, and the idea of anyone cheering Charlotte against Lynch (the legitimate wronged party) was preposterous.
This company doesn't have a great history of reading the room and listening to their audience, but fair play to them for adjusting their course on Becky vs. Charlotte.
