WWE Night of Champions - Live on Sky Box Office

Let’s take a look at the card and engage in the traditional American pastime of making bold assumptions.

As we prepare for what will surely be an epic Night of Champions this Sunday, its important to acknowledge that the biggest story in wrestling involves a man who most certainly wont be appearing at the event. After suffering a heart attack ringside on Monday, Jerry The King Lawler is in stable condition at a Montreal hospital, still fighting to recover from what may have been the scariest moment in recent WWE history. Thankfully, the doctors have stated that The King did not suffer any brain damage due to the attack, but nevertheless, this show will, in all likelihood be dedicated in Lawlers honor, as is this column.

King will certainly be missed at the Announcers Table on Sunday, as will his trademark squeal of delight when someone (inevitably) goes through the Spanish Announcers Table, but, as is the custom in wrestling, the show must go on. And what a show it looks to be! With the card finally coming together, the WWE is truly turning its best athletes loose upon Boston, and this looks to be one of the better pay-per-views in recent memory. With that in mind, lets take a look at the card and engage in the traditional American pastime of making bold assumptions.

Match #1: U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. Pre-Show Battle Royale VictorAt first glance, this seems to be an opportunity for the Rugby-scarred Cesaro to shine in his first major title defense, but dont count out the as-of-yet unannounced field in this match. Recently, the WWE has gone through an influx of new talent, superstars that need the proper exposure to put their mark on the brand. That would explain the assault this past Friday during Smackdown on Cesaro by Tyson Kidd and Brodus Clay, both of whom are trying their damnedest to become relevant in the Reality-Era WWE. Expect both these men to take part in the pre-show Battle Royale, along with several new up-and-comers. Personally, if I see Ryback enter that match on Sunday, Im putting the big android down as my favorite to take the victory. There is a strong chance for a little interference from Santino Morella though, especially after Cesaro took the belt in a somewhat suspect manner during the SummerSlam pre-show. The little Italian has a penchant for distracting superstars and causing them grief, so, should Santino not square off as Cesaros opponent (dont count that out either), you may be able to bank on an appearance regardless.
