WWE NXT Breakout Tournament Returning In July
Details on the return of WWE's NXT Breakout Tournament, which starts on 13 July.
The NXT Breakout Tournament will return on the black and gold brand's 13 July episode, WWE has announced.
As confirmed on last night's show, eight wrestlers will participate in the single-elimination competition, with the winner earning a future title shot of their choosing.
Though WWE is yet to announce any firm competitors for the tournament yet, the Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online note that the company has already taped two qualifying matches for this week's episode of 205 Live. Those bouts will feature former CZW Champion Joe Gacy, Andre Chase (FKA Harlem Bravado), Superstar Spectacle debutant Guru Raaj, and former amateur wrestler Desmond Troy.
Jordan Myles won the original Breakout Tournament in 2019, defeating Cameron Grimes in the final that August. Current WWE wrestlers Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott, Angel Garza, Joaquin Wilde, and Boa also featured in a bracket designed to highlight new talent.
Myles challenged for Adam Cole's NXT Championship in the aftermath, but ended up leaving WWE after alleging racism when the company designed a t-shirt for him resembling blackface.
It'll be interesting to see who ends up populating the bracket. Given the names announced for the qualifiers, it looks like WWE are once again going for people that aren't already established on television.
