WWE Planning More International Tournaments
Latin American and Asian Championships coming soon?
This weekend, WWE presents the United Kingdom Championship tournament, a 16-man affair designed to crown the company's first-ever UK Champion.
According to this week's Wrestling Observer newsletter, though, this is only the first such title and tournament, and other regional belts will be introduced.
Currently, the company is planning to introduce a Latin American Championship and an Asian Championship (which would cover the wrestling hotbeds of Mexico and Japan, respectively), though plans beyond those are currently unknown. As the United Kingdom Championship is set to be the centerpiece of an upcoming WWE Network-exclusive show, it is possible that similar shows will be created for these titles.
The UK Championship tournament airs live this Saturday and Sunday at 3 PM ET/8 PM GMT on the WWE Network.
The Observer is also reporting that many new signees have reported to the WWE Performance Center this week, including independent stars Kimber Lee, Heidi Lovelace, Julia Ho, and Andrea, as well as trainees Zhao Xia, Yifeng, and Big Boa. They join a number of other stars who are currently working at the PC (including Drew Gulak, Tajiri, Mustafa Ali, Tony Nese, and Ariya Daivari) and new coaches Steve Corino and Johnny Saint.
