WWE Planning To Reunite THIS Fan Favourite Tag Team
It looks as if this hugely talented WWE tag team will be reforming soon...
Likely to the delight of many, WWE is still planning to reunite Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa as DIY.
There were rumblings earlier in the year that WWE would be looking at doing a DIY reunion as and when Tommaso Ciampa makes his return from injury, and it appears that those plans are very much still in place.
As reported by Twitter insider Boozer (via WrestlingNews.co), plans were in place as recently as yesterday to place Ciampa together with Johnny Gargano as and when the Psycho Killer is back on our screens.
Tommaso last wrestled at a 17 September 2022 live event in Bakersfield, California, where he came up short against Bobby Lashley in a bout for the All Mighty's United States Title. In terms of his last TV match, that was Ciampa teaming with the Miz to pick up a DQ win over Lashley and AJ Styles on the 22 August 2022 episode of WWE Raw.
It was revealed by the two-time NXT Champion himself in October that Ciampa would be undergoing surgery for a torn hip labrum that was causing him significant back pain.
Unfortunately, the injury to Ciampa happened shortly after Johnny Gargano's return to WWE and Johnny Wrestling's 'proper' main roster arrival. In the time since then, Gargano has been somewhat lost in the shuffle and only used sporadically - with it clear that there were plans for something between Ciampa and Gargano prior to Tommaso's enforced absence.
DIY: Standout Singles Become Terrific Tag Tandem
As for DIY, the pairing of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa had never actually teamed together before they were made a tandem for the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic back in 2015. These two favourites of the independent scene would formally sign with WWE the next year, and they would quickly become a standout act of NXT and earn themselves a reputation as one of the best tag teams in the world.
Gargano and Ciampa would become the NXT Tag Team Champions at TakeOver: Toronto in November 2016, defeating the Revival in an epic two out of the three falls match. DIY would hold on to those titles until TakeOver: San Antonio the following January, where they'd drop the gold to the Authors of Pain.
Of course, like so many great teams, DIY would break up and feud with one another; that break-up shockingly coming at TakeOver: Chicago that May, where Ciampa attacked Gargano after they'd come up short against the AOP in a ladder match.
There would be occasional DIY reunions across 2019 through until 2021, and now it looks as if a more full-time reunion could be set to happen once Ciampa finally makes his long-awaited to return to action - with the 38-year-old expected to return to WWE programming imminently.
Whether as opponents or as tag team partners, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have phenomenal chemistry together. And if DIY is indeed to reunite, that would be a huge positive for WWE's tag team division.
