In a move that is already drawing an intense, divided reaction online, Dominik Mysterio dethroned Wes Lee as NXT North American Champion last night.
WWE's main roster jeer magnet hit developmental to challenge Lee on Wednesday. Aided by his Judgment Day stablemates, Dominik profited from dual run-ins, taking advantage of the referee's back being turned while Finn Balor and Damian Priest made scenes of themselves.
Lee appeared to have overcome the interference, ducking a belt shot and wiping Priest out, though Rhea Ripley proved the difference-maker. The WWE Women's World Champion clocked Wes with her own strap, allowing Dominik to crawl across the ring, make the cover, and score the pinfall.
Understandably shocked reactions filled the Performance Center as Dominik and The Judgment Day pulled away in victory. The clip speaks for itself:-

This is Dominik's first singles title in WWE, and his first belt of any kind since a 63-day run as SmackDown Tag Team Champion alongside father Rey in 2021. In dethroning Lee, he ends a well-received 269-day reign including acclaimed defences against the likes of Dijak, Carmelo Hayes, Tyler Bate, and many more.
