Alberto Del Rio won the Raw MITB match at the 2011 WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view. That was the same night that CM Punk shocked the world by beating John Cena to become the WWE Champion and walking out of the company as his contract had expired. Del Rio tried to cash in his opportunity immediately following Punk's title win, but was knocked unconscious by a swift kick to the head by the new champ. After another failed cash in attempt against Rey Mysterio, the Mexican Aristocrat was able to successfully defeat CM Punk at Summerslam after he had just defeated John Cena to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. Unfortunately for Del Rio, he only held the title for a month before losing it to Cena at Night of Champions. But his short reign was followed up by slightly longer one when he regained the title two weeks later at Hell in a Cell against Cena and Punk.
