CM Punk won the MITB at WrestleMania XXV becoming the first man to win consecutive MITB ladder matches. After a few failed attempts to cash in against World Heavyweight Champion Edge, he finally won the title from Jeff Hardy immediately following The Charismatic Enigma's title win in a Ladder match at Extreme Rules. This led to a feud between Punk and Hardy in which saw the title change hands a few times. There were some great promos and matches during the feud and it brought about the formation of CM Punk's Straight Edge Society. Punk's eventually moved on to a feud with The Undertaker and lost the title at Hell in a Cell 2009.
