WWE Releases 2020-2021: Where Are They Now?

By Jamie Kennedy /

33. Cain Velasquez

WWE

Released: 28 April 2020

Now: Two-time UFC Heavyweight Champ Cain Velasquez had such a nothing time of it in WWE that he almost made it onto the 'Best Of The Rest' portion. Cain managed one match (vs. Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel 2019), then saw a planned Royal Rumble berth get cancelled before being released.

He went on to get wrapped up in nasty shooting incident. The allegations and fallout from that continue to hit the courts.

32. Tegan Nox

WWE

Released: 18 November 2021

Now: It'd be lovely to see regular injury victim Tegan Nox overcome physical issues to get a proper run on WWE's main roster. She's another who has been rumoured for a return under Triple H after a year outside the company. Bank on it happening if she can stay fit.

Nox hasn't wrestled this year.

31. Ember Moon

AEW

Released: 4 November 2021

Now: Where is the re-dubbed Athena now? Well, she's in AEW booking hell and has been swallowed up by a creative process that just won't stop signing pro wrestlers. Honestly, Tony Khan is starting to give WCW a run for its money at this point.

Here's hoping Athena is personally happy, because she isn't doing much on TV that she couldn't have done in WWE/NXT.

30. Serena Deeb

AEW

Released: 15 April 2020

Now: Serena Deeb will be more chuffed with AEW life than she was in WWE, if only because she's in a trusted veteran role and gets to help younger workers grow behind the scenes. That has to feel good for somebody who always came across as a 'what if' in WWE history.

Deeb done good after the McMahons ended her coaching role at the PC in 2020.

29. AOP

WWE

Released: 4 September 2020

Now: Oh dear.

AOP boys Akam and Rezar tried to launch their own Wrestling Entertainment Series promotion, but...the idea was knackered by several problems and the first planned event got cancelled over the summer. That's been it for the pair since leaving WWE in late-2020.

Will WES attempt to launch properly soon? Hmm. Who can say for sure?
