While it was revealed earlier this week that WWE quietly released Lars Sullivan last month, now comes word that the company has today terminated the contract of Steve Cutler.

As is the norm for these situations, WWE.com posted the standard “we wish him well in his future endeavours” line as the company announced Cutler’s release.

The wrestler himself was quick to take to Twitter to detail his shock at this news.

A military veteran, Cutler signed with WWE back in 2014, spending four years in the NXT system being finally getting something of note when the Forgotten Sons group formed in 2018.

Along with Wesley Blake and Jaxon Ryker, Cutler was called up to SmackDown in April of last year. While they were at one point rumoured to be getting a run as SmackDown Tag Team Champions, any hopes of a run with the blue brand’s tag straps were squashed when controversial Twitter comments from Ryker saw the group pulled from TV barely a month after they debuted on SmackDown.

The last time that Steve Cutler was seen on WWE programming was back in December, where he and Blake resurfaced as cohorts of King Corbin. As for Jaxson Ryker, he can currently be found alongside Elias over on the Raw brand.

In an additional report from Fightful Select, Cutler is said to have had backstage heat after Vince McMahon was angry at him for receiving a positive COVID-19 test result in January. Which if true, sounds insane yet plausible to believe that Vince would be irked by a talent having the audacity to test positive for a virus during the middle of a global pandemic.
