If WWE is to be believed, we've seen the last of Cody Rhodes in a wrestling ring for the rest of 2022, and possibly up to WrestleMania 39.

During SmackDown Friday night, Michael Cole provided an update on Rhodes' status after sustaining a torn pectoral tendon in the lead-up to Hell in a Cell last weekend. Cody went on to defeat Seth Rollins in the main event cell match, finishing off their trilogy in epic fashion. The next night on Raw, Rhodes was written off TV when Rollins attacked the American Nightmare with a sledgehammer.

Cole told the audience that Rhodes had successful surgery to repair his torn pec on Thursday, but that due to the extent of the injury, he would be out of action for up to nine months.

Considering that this update too, place on WWE programming, you've got to imagine there's a fair amount of working going on here. If Rhodes were able to rehabilitate and return within six months, it would be just in time for a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble, which would make for another epic moment in Cody's WWE comeback.

It also would be in line with previous occasions where WWE has reported that an injured wrestler would be out for a set amount of time, only for them to make a shocking return earlier than expected. John Cena famously returned from a torn pec in less than four months, about half of what was projected.
