WWE Royal Rumble 2017: 10 Superstars We Actually Want To See Win
Time to push Goldberg to the moon.
It’s that time of year again, folks. The Road To WrestleMania starts here, as WWE commentators are so eager to point out at every possible juncture. Yes, it’s the Royal Rumble. Definitely WWE’s most fun PPV of the year and one of its most important, the past few main events have stunned and annoyed the WWE Universe in almost equal measure, thanks to predictable booking.
Being internet smarks, we usually know who is likely to win the Royal Rumble before they’ve even announced the 30th entrant, but this year it feels slightly different. At the time of writing, there’s no clear-cut victor for this year’s Rumble, which is exactly as it should be. 2017 needs to move away from the obvious and try to surprise us, and not by bringing Batista back again to promote Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.
30 men are going to enter the ring at the Royal Rumble and while we’re praying it’s not one long James Ellsworth storyline, here are the ten superstars it would actually be exciting to see win a shot at the gold.
10. Finn Bálor
Yes, we know, he’s injured, but there is a slim chance Finn Bálor could make a surprise return at the Royal Rumble to begin his journey of redemption. After winning the WWE Universal title last year (with a bloody broken shoulder!), Finn was forced to vacate the strap the very next night in a scene of absolute sh*thousery but necessity. He then went into hiding but has started to show up again in the UK at ICW’s Fear & Loathing IX show in Glasgow, a live Gorilla Position podcast with Bayley, and to launch the WWE UK Championship in London with Triple H and William Regal.
Okay, sure, this isn’t active competition by a long shot, but he’s slowly gaining traction again and reminding WWE fans who he is and why we should give a crap. Finn never lost the title and was never able to prove to the mainstream WWE audience why he was top dog in NXT for so damn long. If he comes in and eliminates Rollins for the win, the Alamodome will pop like a Big Show sized balloon.
