WWE has formally announced the acquisition of former Ring of Honor star Lio Rush, following unofficial reports of a contract offer last month.

In a news bulletin posted to WWE.com, the company confirmed that the 22-year-old - described therein as "one of the ring's top high-flyers" - will initially be assigned to its Performance Centre in Orlando.

Last year, Rush was the winner of ROH's prestigious "Top Prospects" competition - an annual tournament for up-and-coming wrestlers - at the age of just 21.

He has also performed for CZW, where he had a two-week stint as World Heavyweight Champion earlier this year, and - briefly - PWG, since making his professional debut in 2014.

At 5'6" and a billed weight of 160lbs, the diminutive star would be an obvious candidate to join WWE's growing 205 Live division, which has perhaps suffered from a lack of genuine crowd favourites since its much-heralded inception last year.

However, the bulletin also alludes to Rush's connection with current NXT star Patrick Clark, aka The Velveteen Dream, with whom he co-held the MCW Tag Team Championship two years ago.
