WWE Smackdown Review: Looking At The "Two to Tango" Edition

Smackdown this week from Knoxville was quite the song and dance. With most most of the roster already in the UK it was a bare-bones crew. However, there was some solid wrestling and silliness definitely thrown in for good measure.
The show opens with Fandango having his long elaborate entrance as the crowd very quietly hums the theme. Then his attention turns to Lillian Garcia as he tests her dancing abilities asking her if she wants to Fandango with him. This leads to some awkward sequence where it almost looks like Garcia wanted to kiss him at one point. I love the combination of dirty Johnny Curtis from NXT and Fandango it gives the character a lot more depth. In the end, Fandango drops Lillian for her bad skills leaving her distraught. Santino comes out calling the dancing douche bag a couple bad names that he thinks are funny before they get to the match. In the end, Fandango hits the complete shot a.k.a. Mike Knox old move (apparently the leg drop is no more). I wonder what Bray Wyatt is going to do now since he uses the same finisher in developmental. Backstage Booker is chastising Teddy about his decision on Monday and Oong just to their stoically taking the abuse when big show came in and thanked long making the tag match disparaging Booker T for making a handicap matches the last few weeks. Teddy and the Giant fist bump. Things get awkward and the Long decides to leave. I'm still unsure what exactly is going on here. I don't know who's turning heel, but somebody's definitely going that way. We see a video of Kofi Kingston winning the US title on Raw this past Monday which leads into a champion versus champion match featuring Wade Barrett versus Kofi. While the fans didn't really care about the contest. There was some good stuff in there when they started trading kicks and punches. As for the first time in a long time. Barrett actually looks like bareknuckle boxer. In the end though, Kingston gets the victory with a crucifix pin combination totally ruining the change of luck that Barrett promised on Wednesday on WWE Main Event. Mark Henry is backstage talking with René Young on his attacks the last few weeks against the Celtic Warrior when Sheamus retaliates with an attack of his own. Sheamus after the attack repeating the line because that's what I do. I have to admit I like this a lot. We hear a promo from The Shield who talks about destroying John Cena and Ryback understanding the injustice in the world. Then they turned their attentions to their match on Monday with team Hell No and the Undertaker saying that legends sooner or later have to step aside. Good promo. Definitely worth a listen as the three are finding their rhythm with each other. Alberto del Rio and Jack Swagger had one hell of a match with a ton of back-and-forth action and submission counters galore. I honestly believe this is the match they wanted to have at Wrestlemania but due to time constraints, they couldn't have it. The only thing that really bugs me was the logic of selling the injury. Alberto was so injured on Monday that he could not have a match, but yet he is able to stay in the ankle lock for five minutes without tapping. It just doesn't compute. I know it's nitpicky and I will take my lashes for that but to making a story work is making it seem like could happen. There's fortitude in sports pushing through injuries, but when a beat down happened on Monday, it should affect you three days later, don't you think? We get more silliness as Natalya, her Punjabi Playboy and Hornswoggle versus Rosa, Primo and Epico. This actually had a storyline believe it or not. A vignette was shown of earlier in the day in which Rosa takes a parking spot away from Natalya and crew. The funny thing was it was a small car and the Great Khali was in the back and Hornswoggle was driving. I felt so bad for the Punjabi Playboy during the vignette and Primo crew for the match which was pure silliness and fodder for the dancing baby faces to get one over on their antagonists. And in the main event, Mark Henry and Big Show defeat Randy Orton and Sheamus and a solid match. Not a bad match, nothing spectacular. You can definitely tell the guys were trying to get through the motions in order to get through the hell that is European tour which was the next day for them. Interesting to note, the Big Show and Mark Henry hug afterwards. Funny that a few years ago those two had a blood feud and now their embracing like the best of friends. Not a bad episode of Smackdown, they were glimpses of greatness of every so often I can only imagine how next week will be with that rather crazy international crowd going around once again.
