WWE SummerSlam - 2 New Matches Announced

A tag match and IC Title match are set.

Two new SummerSlam matches were announced at Tuesday's WWE Smackdown tapings: Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose teaming up against Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper and Ryback defending his Intercontinental Title against Big Show and The Miz. The tag match was set up at Battleground when Harper helped Wyatt beat Reigns in a singles match. Since Ambrose is a close friend of Reigns, it makes sense to do the tag match. The original plans called for Sting to be a part of it to make it a six man tag, but that was scrapped when Erick Rowan suffered a torn biceps injury. WWE apparently doesn't want to use Sting in a match even though he's said to be in great shape.

As for the IC Title, the plan was to do Ryback vs. Big Show vs. Miz at Battleground, but Ryback suffered a staph infection prior to the match. Since Show announced the match at Smackdown, WWE is likely optimistic that Ryback will be ready to defend the title at SummerSlam. If not, maybe they will vacate it and then just do Big Show vs. Miz for the title even though they are both heels. Following Monday's Raw, WWE only had one match official at SummerSlam: Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker. Seth Rollins challenged John Cena to a WWE Title vs. US Title match, but it's not official yet since Cena was off Raw this week. With SummerSlam running four hours long this year, WWE can probably put eight or nine matches on the card and truly make the event feel special.
