WWE SummerSlam 2018: 10 Things That Must Happen

Aside from Dean Ambrose storming back into the mix and a slick segment involving Paul Heyman, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, there wasn't much to SummerSlam's go-home episode of Raw. Things were slightly better on SmackDown, mainly due to that show's shorter duration and zippier all-round feel, but again, it was hardly must-see stuff.

WWE's inability to produce buzz heading into the second biggest pay-per-view of 2018 is worrying.

Just as they did last year, WWE will have a tough job on their hands making SummerSlam enjoyable from first bell to last. The writing team are up against it there. They're wrestling a card with 13 matches, seven of which feel second-rate, and it could end in boos if Reigns finally beats Lesnar to become the new Universal Champion.

If he doesn't and Brock retains the belt, then Raw will still meander along with the same Lesnar-bashing focal point. "He's never here", "He's the worst Universal Champ in history". Blah, blah, blah. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Sure, but it'll fade unless WWE make some key decisions on Sunday.

For the good of the matches that are interesting, they better...
