Who REALLY should have been next.

SummerSlam is just days away and returning legends have been confirmed for the card - as they usually are for such big events. Bill Goldberg will be competing, along with Trish Stratus, and... um... Shane McMahon (sighs).

While Trish Stratus Vs Charlotte Flair is a long discussed dream match worthy of the hottest event of the summer, Goldberg taking on Dolph Ziggler isn't exactly up there with The Undertaker Vs Sting as far as dream matches go. It came out of left field at the last minute and seems a mismatch on paper.

Sure, Dolph will sell the hell out of everything the former WCW juggernaut does, redeeming him for his underwhelming performance against 'Taker in Saudi Arabia. But this will no doubt be a swift squash designed to not take up much time on the card, with Goldberg going over and the victory not really doing much for either competitor.

There's active members of the roster currently missing from the SummerSlam line up who would have made for far more worthy opponents for the legend. Stars more in proportion to the powerhouse that is Goldberg, and who would have actually had fans guessing who will emerge victorious. These are the combatants who should have been next!

5. Bobby Lashley

Okay, so Bobby Lashley may have just been sidelined with an injury - rendering this potential bout impossible for SummerSlam - but the fact WWE brass never even considered him as a possible opponent for Goldberg when he was healthy is a travesty.

Lashley has long campaigned in numerous interviews conducted outside of the WWE's confines for a showdown with Brock Lesnar. The encounter would make sense, with both athletes having successful track records within the world of MMA. While that face off has yet to come to fruition, a match up against Goldberg - who has long incorporated an MMA influence into his in-ring style - would make for the ideal consolation prize.

Goldberg does hold a 2-1 record over 'The Beast' after all, and would be one of the biggest names Lashely has had the privilege of sharing a ring with. Plus they're both bald, jacked, and prone to delivering a spear. The contest alone would be a major rub for Bobby, but a win over the former world and universal champion would do wonders for him. Lashley's return has fallen a bit flat so far, but a victory as monumental as this would skyrocket him back into the main event scene and make him ripe for the bout he's long dreamed of against 'The Mayor of Suplex City'.

It's a shame about that injury, but this one is still possible for a future event.
