WWE SummerSlam 2020: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

Not a classic SummerSlam, but a solid effort.

It's unlikely that few will end up ranking this year's SummerSlam among their favourite WWE PPVs in recent memory, though it was certainly a solid night of wrestling featuring several strong showings and a merciful absence of outright clunkers.

The much-discussed "ThunderDome" gimmick mercifully restored much of the atmosphere that's been lacking from the company's events for the last five months, even if nothing can of course quite match the vibe of a live flesh-and-blood crowd.

Again, this year's show didn't set the world on fire and, even outside of present circumstances, it felt like the most low-key and inoffensive SummerSlam in years, though the match quality on offer was generally consistent.

The mysterious "You'll Never See It Coming" tagline was delivered upon in two genuinely unexpected ways, with a certain surprise return sure to leave fans desperate to see how it changes things up moving forward.

It's just as well that SummerSlam offered up a solid night of entertainment, because fans should probably expect to see a glut of inevitable rematches at next week's Payback event...

8. WWE United States Title: Apollo Crews (c) Vs. MVP

Result: Apollo puts MVP away with a Powerbomb to retain the title (6:40)

Rating: Well, that was definitely a match. This was a prototypical nothing kickoff match, and though Apollo tried his damnedest to bring some excitement to the table, MVP's sluggish performance was a major hindrance to him here.

Neither egregiously bad nor in any way memorable, it was a typical whatever filler Raw match that delivered the basic goods and little else. At least the right guy won - even if the finish was a tad sloppy - but Apollo clearly deserves better than this. 5/10
